Comprehensive Invoice
As an importer it is critical to you to create a complete invoice. The invoice is the legal document from which the conducted commerce hinges. It is the invoice that U.S. Customs is most interested in the event of an audit. In the past, foreign suppliers and exporters paid little attention to the accuracy of the invoice. Often times the invoice would change 2 or 3 times during the course of the import process. This is NO LONGER acceptable with Customs. Importers must communicate to their suppliers that they now REQUIRE accurate invoices to be sent prior to the arrival of the shipment so that the proper paperwork can be filed and a release obtained. Below is an example of the kind of information that an invoice should contain.
