Transportation Logistics
We know that after it passes through Customs, it's not at its final destination. So we can help arrange transportation of your goods, and then monitor the travel, from any US port to its final destination upon request.

In addition, when samples need to be delivered from the airport, we pick it up and deliver to your door or arrange forwarding to another destination.

Cargo Insurance
Flegenheimer International, Inc., in partnership with our insurance partners, can provide cargo insurance to meet all logistics needs. Did you know that all participants of the supply chain (airlines, steamship lines, truckers, etc.,) limit their liability so the chances of recovering full value is case of a loss are minimal at best? We can design a custom plan to guarantee the most competitive rates and best available coverage. Coverage includes door-to-door, single source and all risk coverage. Coverage varies based on the type of commodity and points in which it is being shipped

Customs Bonds
Customs bonds, also known as Surety Bonds, are required by the US Customs Service and are a way for the Customs to protect themselves in the event that liquidated damages are assessed against an importer, and so they can collect on money owed.

It is important that these bonds be written correctly. If they are not, your shipment will not pass through customs. In the last 30 years, we have NEVER had a shipment rejected by Customs based on a Customs Bond being mis-filed.
There are two types of Customs Bonds:

Single Transaction - These bonds are to be used to import a single shipment at a single port. This type of bond is typically used for importers that import only a single shipment in a year.

Continuous Bond - These bonds are used for importers that import on a regular basis. The most common bond size for a continuous bond is $50,000.

Export Logistics/Freight Forwarding
Flegenheimer International, Inc. is bonded by the Federal Maritime Commission as an ocean freight forwarder. Through our network of partners, we help clients move products from anywhere in the US to other countries.

Sample Shipments
Samples are probably one of the most critical variables to an importer’s success in marketing their commodities. All future sales and distribution often rest on how samples are delivered to clients. While sample shipments are often small and relatively insignificant in terms of size and value, many contingent sales rest on their viability and expediency of delivery. Since one sample shipment can represent millions of dollars in sales to an importer it is important that your samples are handled properly. Flegenheimer International can handle all the logistics once your sample arrives at LAX. We will clear all appropriate government agencies, arrange for airport pick up, arrange for chilled or frozen storage if needed and coordinate delivery. We can also arrange for your sample to be broken down and delivered to multiple customers anywhere in the US.

Confusion often arises as how US Customs classifies samples. Despite the fact they are small and carry little or no value they still qualify as a commercial shipment. The same paperwork which applies to larger shipment and full containers applies to sample shipments. This includes: commercial invoice, packing list, air waybill, certificates required by CBP and FDA prior notice. Importers must declare each product in the sample and list it on the commercial invoice. There may be one box containing ten different types of seafood yet each item must be broken down on the invoice with weights and values for each.

In short ensuring samples are properly handled is smart business when it comes to importing your perishable commodities. Let one of our import specialists assist you with your next sample shipment.
