GSP Renewal and Seafood Import Monitoring Program (SIMP) included in Omnibus Spending Bill

GSP Renewal Update

President Trump signed the Omnibus Appropriations bill which passed through the House and Senate on March 23, 2018. Because of this, GSP will be back in effect by April 23rd  (30 days after enactment).  Importers will be refunded as the extension of GSP retroactively authorizes GSP claims back to January 1, 2018.

Seafood Import Monitoring Program (SIMP) on Shrimp and Abalone

Another substantial provision in the legislation is the enforcement of SIMP requirements against shrimp and abalone. The bill directs the agency to begin enforcing the traceability requirements under NOAA no later than December 31, 2018. The law will also apply to the domestic aquaculture shrimp and abalone entering the U.S. commerce.

* Please note International Fisheries Trade Permit (IFTP) will be required to import shrimp and abalone once the requirements become mandatory in ACE.*
